Project:
Gold Room Showcase

Introduction:
As a freelance 3D artist at Schawk SGK, I undertook the Gold Room project to demonstrate my proficiency in Marvelous Designer and expand my skill set in creating intricate textile designs. The project presented an opportunity to address a client's need for visually appealing bedding and roomset imagery for their website. It was essential for me to demonstrate my capabilities clearly and leave no doubt about the potential use case proposed.

Client and Company Context:
Client: Laura Ashley, a renowned brand in home furnishings.
Company: Schawk SGK, a global packaging and brand experience company.
Project Scope: Creating realistic 3D models of bedding items, including quilts, duvet covers, curtains, and blinds.
replacing outdated photography on the Clients website.

"These images underscore the client's struggle with outdated methods, hindering their ability to showcase fabric variations for mass production and appeal."
Challenges Faced: "Buy-In"
Initially, the idea of producing detailed bedding items was met with scepticism due to the perceived complexity and lack of experience within the team. However, I was determined to explore this opportunity and committed myself to mastering Marvelous Designer to meet the client's requirements.

Below are several unsuccessful attempts to explore different methods and ideas.
Learning Journey:
Invested personal time and resources into learning Marvelous Designer.
I overcame initial difficulties through online tutorials and experimentation.
Gained inspiration and insights from references, including images from Great Universal Stores.
As my skills developed, I came across a compelling image from Great Universal Stores. With this reference in mind, I decided to create an image with some resemblance, fully aware of the challenge it presented.

I extracted the patterns from each pillow and the bedspread using Photoshop and Illustrator to serve as templates for later use in Marvelous Designer.

This is a screen recording showcasing a technique I developed during the project for creating a pineapple pattern, which later influenced several live projects.
The Spiky Mirror was created using a straightforward technique in Cinema 4D, involving a capsule within a cloner and a step effector.

Below are some screenshots from Cinema 4D displaying the base models, both with and without wireframe lines.
Project Execution:
I developed a comprehensive understanding of fabric simulation and intricate textile design.
Created detailed 3D models of quilts and duvet covers, ensuring realism and accuracy in texture and drape.
Expanded project scope to include curtains, blinds, and roomsets, showcasing versatility and adaptability.
Project Outcome:
Helped to successfully secure the contract with Laura Ashley for the Duvet Cover roomsets, Drapes  and Blinds.
Enhanced the client's website with visually stunning bedding and room set imagery.
Received recognition for creative problem-solving and innovative approach to 3D modeling.

This project was very rewarding. The images below illustrate a clear and positive outcome, benefiting not only Schawk but also establishing a foundation for years of ongoing collaboration with Laura Ashley.
Key Takeaways:
Demonstrated the importance of perseverance and continuous learning in overcoming challenges.
Highlighted the value of creative problem-solving in meeting client needs and exceeding expectations.
